Fred lives and breathes letterforms. From the weight of a single numeral to the rhythm of a word set large, he's the one making sure every TypePosters design holds up as well up close as it does across the room.

We talk a lot about letters, but numbers are just as personal — sometimes more. A house number is the address you came home to. A date is the day everything changed. A milestone age is a whole decade in two digits. As a typographic print, a number turns that meaning into something you can hang on a wall.

Here's how to choose one well.

Pick the number that already means something

The strongest number prints aren't abstract — they're tied to a specific memory. The usual starting points:

  • A house number — your current home, or a first home you want to remember.
  • A date — a wedding, an anniversary, or a birth year, styled as a numeral.
  • A milestone age — 18, 30, 40, 50; brilliant as a landmark-birthday gift.
  • A lucky or significant number — a shirt number, a flat number, a number that's followed someone around.

If you're buying for someone else, the number *they'd* pick is the gift. You're just making it permanent.

Choose a design that keeps numbers legible

Numbers have their own rhythm, and some designs carry them better than others — especially if you're using more than one or two digits.

  • Single digits can take a bolder, more decorative design and still read clearly.
  • Dates and longer strings suit cleaner, more structured type so the whole sequence stays legible from across the room.

It's the same decision as with letters — *stand out* or *settle in* — but with numbers, lean slightly towards clarity. A date you have to squint at loses its impact. (Our letter-print guide walks through the same design-mood choice in more detail.)

Colour and placement

A house number by the front door, an anniversary date in the bedroom, a milestone-birthday print in a living space — each room invites a different palette. Match the print to what's already there; if you want it to lift a neutral space, our colourful prints are the easiest way in.

Size it for the spot

  • A3 — the versatile default; ideal for a hallway house number or a gallery grouping.
  • A2 — a clear single feature above a console table or shelf.
  • A1–A0 — when the number is the statement on a larger wall.

If you want to measure properly first, the print-size guide takes five minutes and saves a misjudged order.

How it's made

Every number print is a Giclée fine-art print on 180gsm archival matte paper, made to order — so once you've chosen the number, the design and the size, the rest is taken care of.

FAQ

What numbers work best as a personalised print?

House numbers, significant dates (a wedding, an anniversary, a birth year) and milestone ages all work well. The best choice is the number that already means something to the person it's for.

Can a date be made into a number print?

Yes — a date styled as a numeral makes a popular anniversary or birthday print. Choose a clean design so a longer string of numbers stays legible.

What size suits a single house number print?

For a hallway or entrance, A3 is a confident, readable size; step up to A2 if it's the main feature on the wall.
